What Happened To Me?!: Volume 1, Bonus Chapter

WHAT’S ON MY MIND

I’m a forgetful husbando. I forgot Akeno’s “birthday” on Monday, but I'll take her to the car wash once the rains stop on Monday or Tuesday for my penance.

I know that sounds stupid since Akeno is a car and not an extremely curvaceous Japanese woman in a miko shrine maiden outfit, but this memory lapse reminded me of the events that led to the end of a real life engagement three decades ago.

I prefer not to dwell on that since it was for the best. Anyway...

WHAT I BOUGHT

More shares of Take-Two Interactive and Nissan stock.

The former tanked on news that there might be a delay in the production of GTA 6, and I love taking advantage of investors that chase short term gains at The Casino of Emotions every chance I get. I have eyes on when the game will be released, so any bad news between now and then is good news for me.

The latter is the pursuit of a foreign tax credit that potentially offsets my American tax liability dollar for dollar when Japan taxes the dividends. It’s not a lot of money, but every dollar counts in March.

WHAT I ATE

Two crunchy ground beef tacos drizzled with Del Taco’s hottest hot sauce and an order of medium crinkle cut fries really hit the spot on Thursday afternoon. I won't do Taco Bell since I have no idea what's in that paste they call "beef".

WHAT I READ

Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me From Hollywood by Maitland Ward. The former mainstream actress turned cosplayer and adult film star is a very interesting woman. I love how she is unapologetically… her true self? I’ll run with that.

WHAT I WATCHED

NWSL soccer. I discovered that most of the San Diego Wave FC’s games this season will be streamed on Amazon Prime or the Ion channel. I also signed up for NWSL+, which is free to stream the rest of the Wave’s games. I don't know the players outside of Alex Morgan at this time, but head coach Casey Stoney is a familiar face from my two decades of rooting for Arsenal from afar.

There’s a good chance I’ll buy a home jersey once the Wave has restocked them in my new size, and maybe I'll attend a game later this season?

WHAT MADE ME SMILE

Cam Waters finally gets his chance to race in NASCAR. This time the news of him coming stateside is legit, unlike two years ago. He makes a handsome cowboy, so of course I fell for the April Fool’s joke due to the seventeen hour time difference.

WHO’S IN SLAP COURT THIS WEEK

The defendant: Vons, and only because Slap Court is required to be in session more days than Congress.

The crime: Almost every bottle of Sparkling Ice stocked on the shelves the other day was a Starburst flavor. If I want to taste candy when I quench my thirst, I’ll grab a Cherry Coke.

The punishment: One deferred slap. I’ll forget about this if they have kiwi strawberry and black cherry restocked upon my return.

WHO DESERVES A FIST BUMP

Last November, Nick Percat nearly found himself on the outside looking in as Supercars teams reshuffled their driver rosters for the 2024 season. The prematurely graying veteran landed at Matt Stone Racing, and on Saturday my local time he won his first Supercars race since 2020 in thrilling fashion.

WHAT’S UP WITH MY HEALTH

My dental visit confirmed almost all is well. I require a deep cleaning below the gum line and was advised to stop using Pro Glide dental floss. The good news is should be fine afterward.

I also lost 3 pounds this week, but I’m certain my dental hygienist didn’t remove that much tartar buildup from my teeth.

WHAT’S UP WITH MY WRITING

I got past my mental log jam and finished editing the fourth chapter. I’m in the middle of Chapter 5, and I’m thrilled with how inspiring the writing feels when it's written in the supporting character's POV. I should finish the chapter sometime this weekend.

  1. Cleaning below the gum line? A periodontal cleaning? I had one done once for extra buildup of plaque below the gums. What a pain in the ass. 4 visits, one for each quarter of the mouth and it is time consuming, and bloody. But once done my gums felt great and filled back in again. The plaque was causing receding.

    1. I get to do it in two visits that will last roughly an hour and a half each. It's not nearly as bad as it was eight years ago, but I agreed it's better to do it now rather than later.

  2. Sorry about the deep cleaning, but it's good to just get it over with. I had it done 15-16 years ago but then they did the entire mouth at once. I hope I never have to do that again. I've only eaten Taco Bell once and that was probably 30 years ago. I had a beef Chalupa and it was horrible. I'm sure the quality of 'meat' is even worse now. I hope you have a wonderful week my friend!! Happy Easter.
