Questions For Y'all
I'm known for cheeky comments, but I have some super serious questions about your neck of the woods or state in the event I need to pull up stakes in the near future:
- What kind of housing can I buy with a $350,000 budget? It's not that I can't afford higher. I feel it's unreasonable to pay more than that for a house or condo I won't feature in the pages of House Beautiful.
- What is the property tax situation like? A percentage will do.
- Do you pay state income taxes? Yes or no will suffice as an answer.
- Will I need to fund an HOA gestapo?
- Is the 'hood blue, red or purple?
- Is it a safe place to live? Or will I need to purchase a security system from ADT, Brinks, or Ruger?
Thanks in advance for your participation. I really appreciate it.
Since I don't own the house im in, my mother does, and never owned one, Im not sure about some of these....
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of housing can I buy with a $350,000 budget? Here that would be for a modest ranch or cape Cod, or one bedroom condo.
What is the property tax situation like? A percentage will do. 1.14% currently here.
Do you pay state income taxes? Yes. At the end of the year It always breaks even and I have never owed.
Will I need to fund an HOA gestapo? not sure about this one.
Is the 'hood blue, red or purple? Our hood is purple.
Is it a safe place to live? Or will I need to purchase a security system from ADT, Brinks, or Ruger? Our place is safe. I often never fear, and often sit outside into the wee hours. I have no security system and won't waste the money. Even when homes get broken into, they still get away with things, or the company or police taken their time getting there. Besides most look for drug s or cash. Who keeps cash on them anymore in the house.... and as far as drugs.... its, vitamins, Advil, Nyquil or cigars here.
We moved here 19 years ago from SW Florida and things are very different. Mostly positive changes and we are very happy here.
ReplyDeleteThe median listing price of a house is about 140,000. 350,000 could buy you a LOT of house and even a LOT of land here. In SW Florida, 350,000 will get you an OK house with little to no land.
Property taxes and insurance are a lot lower here also. For both, we pay about 3000.00 a year for our 3 bed 2 bath house on 1/3 an acre.
There is state income tax here and not in Florida but I generally get about half back at the end of the year.
There are very few HOA's here. I would not live in one.
Even though it is technically a democratic state I would consider it purple in our area. Our area is more rural, small town feel and almost everyone regardless of race, religion, etc. come together and look out for each other. I do feel very safe here.
It was a bit of culture shock moving to a small Midwest town from the large urban area of SW Florida that we lived in. I have never lived in a small town before. It took me a few years to really get used to it here. I wasn't used to everyone saying hello and everyone being so nice and I was a bit skeptical. Now that we've been here so long I see that people here do just genuinely care. I love the way the community will come together for anyone here that needs it to.
Also, I love being able to buy so much locally grown food too. I've learned a lot from the Mennonite community.
no to the HOA; avoid this if you possibly can.
