Reborn As An Early Retiree, I Now Wander America’s Costliest City: Volume 2, Chapter 3

WHAT’S ON MY MIND

An older woman I’ve known since I was eighteen. We reconnected on the phone this week, and discovered we’ve led similar lives for the past two years. We’ll see each other in person soon, but it might take awhile. She’s still working, and I’m dealing with family issues that absorb a decent amount of my personal time.

I love that she’s assertive, speaks her mind, and has a potty mouth. She graduated from one of those colleges with exorbitant tuition fees, unlike me who matriculated in the local state university. I find her conversations both emotionally and intellectually stimulating, and I love it when she puts me on my heels.

She doesn’t act superior. She just is, and I bet that intimidates a lot of men. If I pursue these feelings and end up performing a faithful reenactment of The Flight of Icarus, I don’t care. I’m feeling bold, and in two months I can use our age gap as a selling point.

Aren’t women supposed to outlive men by seven years anyway?

WHAT I CAN’T STOP EATING

Taijin chili and lime seasoned peanuts. I limit myself to one serving with either lunch or dinner, but they’re as addictive as Doritos or crack cocaine. Pick your poison.

WHAT I BOUGHT

A monogrammed Tumi sling bag, because I’m going through some shit right now. It’s perfect to store my phone, keys and wallet while I’m running errands.

WHAT I SOLD

BMW (BMWYY). I won’t bore you with details about how American Depository Receipts (ADRs) work, but I sold my Beemer shares after the auto maker terminated their ADR agreement with BNY Mellon. I’ll likely buy those ADRs again once a new agreement takes effect.

WHAT I CAN LISTEN TO

Everything I own. I found two empty 32GB USB sticks lying around the house, and after I copied my entire MP3 collection to both of them they’ve taken permanent residence within Miku’s and Yukino’s center consoles.

WHAT SACRED TEXTS I READ

  • Death’s Daughter And The Ebony Blade, Volume 2.

Also from J-Novel Club:

  • The Royal Hostage Has Vanished: The Black Wolf Yearns For The Persecuted Princess, Volume 1
  • The Hero And The Sage: Reincarnated And Engaged, Volume 1
  • The Poison King: Now That I’ve Gained Ultimate Power, The Bewitching Beauties In My Harem Can’t Get Enough Of Me, Volume 1 (finished)
  • An Introvert’s Hookup Hiccups: This Gyaru Is Head Over Heels For Me!, Volume 8
  • From Two-Bit Baddie To Total Heartthrob: This Villainess Will Cross-Dress To Impress!, Volume 2
  • Duchess In The Attic, Volume 1

WHAT I WATCHED

For several weeks Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works kept popping up in the Crunchyroll app recommendations like the mushrooms and weeds in my backyard. I’m nearly halfway through this decade old series, and it’s really good.

WHAT MADE ME HAPPY

A new Quintessential Quintuplets animated movie! This new project follows Futaro and the Nakano quints on their honeymoon. Wait a minute. I know he married one of them, but they’re all coming along?!?

I hope Crunchyroll acquires the Stateside rights so I can watch it later this year or in 2025.

WELCOME TO SLAPSVILLE…

Lou Dobbs is rumored to be settling into his new luxury suite in a place hotter than Death Valley. That’s fitting for all the crap he pulled after he got into a frothy rage over Latinos at the end of his CNN tenure.

A FIST BUMP GOES TO…

Former F1 driver and current Sky Sports commentator Ralf Schumacher, Michael’s younger brother, came out this week! I’ve always wondered what he was up to now that I see his son David race from time to time.

WHAT I RESURRECTED

A troublesome Microsoft Surface Pro 7. The other night I did a factory reset on it, and 2.5 hours later I ended up with a viable second laptop. Unlike the MSI laptop, the Surface Pro will strictly be used for writing/editing.

WHAT’S UP WITH MY HEALTH

Stress, anxiety, and hot weather made getting a full night’s rest nearly impossible. I’m also dealing with a minor knee issue that’s slowly getting better on its own. I also stress ate 100 calorie KIND bars midweek over what’s happening with my brother.

Despite all that, I lost 1.3 pounds this week!

I just noticed my body fat percentage now shows up in the Fitbit app. This is an exciting development since it will be the true measure of what my target weight should be. BMI charts never applied to this big, strong body.

  1. I'm glad you reconnected with an old friend. I hope you manage to get together soon. Relationships are so important. You're still doing great with the weight loss. That is awesome. I hope your week is stress free.

    1. Thanks, and I hope your week is a good one as well. I'm hopeful I'll get to see her in 2-3 weeks unless something happens on my end.
