Rebirth Of The Red Lantern: Volume 1, Chapter 1

WHAT’S ON MY MIND

New year, new weekly update title! I bought a Red Lantern t-shirt just before Christmas and now I find myself back with the Corps in spirit.

I’m usually not filled with rage, but after reading this oath by Aya from Green Lantern: The Animated Series I know in my heart crimson will always be my ring color no matter what mood I’m in.

The power of the crimson red,

Can lead your soul away from dread,

And heal the deepest wounds of hate,

Let no one else decide your fate.

On the flip side…

WHAT (NOT) RAGE AND (DEFINITELY) VENGEANCE THING I’M DOING

Today is The Muse’s birthday. To celebrate, I won’t text or call her to wish her Happy Birthday for starters. I’m mirroring her energy, so I’ve let her initiate any and all contact since Christmas.

Back when I was willing to simp, I wanted to surprise her with $150 in Ulta gift cards. I thought it would be nice for a boss bitch to pamper herself for her special day. Later this morning, I’m going shopping with her birthday present! I use Burberry Brit For Men cologne, but I want a second, more lighthearted scent for everyday use. Those gift cards should cover it.

I’m not a vindictive asshole. I know my worth, and soon she’ll discover that it takes a lot more effort (and money!) on her end to keep a quality man like me.

WHAT I CONSUMED

I opened that bottle of Emerald Creek’s I’m A Charmer white wine blend I bought at Dudley’s last week and I was indeed charmed! I also had WS peppermint bark and peanut brittle — two gifts that were also intended for The Muse but became my mid afternoon snacks.

When you consider I also had a burger and fries last weekend, I dreaded stepping on the scale this morning. Ara ara!

WHAT I BOUGHT

Nearly three decades ago this sales book by the late Joe Girard changed my life. I went from being an above average salesperson in my company to the unquestioned alpha male in the region after I absorbed his knowledge.

I’m unlikely to take another sales job, but this trip down memory lane reminded me I can use this stuff in everyday life, including dating. Reading others. Mirroring them. Overcoming objections. Controlling the conversation. Know when and how to inject humor. It’s good stuff to know.

WHERE I’M GOING

Besides my Ulta prepaid shopping spree I need to hit up the bookstore. I’ll likely grab magazines for Le Crash Pad. Perhaps I'll bring my laptop with me to do some novel prep while sipping a coffee?

WHAT I LISTENED TO

Selected songs from The Wedding Singer soundtrack. It’s a treasure trove of 80s music that I need to listen to more often.

WHAT SACRED TEXTS I READ

  • How To Close Every Sale by Joe Girard (in progress)
  • Someone’s Girlfriend, Volume 2
  • The Moon On A Rainy Night, Volume 6

Also from J-Novel Club…

  • The Hero And The Sage: Reincarnated And Engaged, Volume 3
  • The Poison King: Now That I’ve Gained Ultimate Power, The Bewitching Beauties In My Harem Can’t Get Enough Of Me, Volume 3 (finished)
  • An Introvert’s Hookup Hiccups: This Gyaru Is Head Over Heels For Me!, Volume 9
  • Duchess In The Attic, Volume 3

WHAT I WATCHED

RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 17. When you can shove aside Ru’s transphobia, you get a highly entertaining 90 minute show. I will never look at lemonade or Katy Perry’s footwear the same way again.

WHAT MADE ME LAUGH

The fact that nearly everything I bought for The Muse for her birthday and Christmas turned out to be things I could use myself was a master stroke of genius. It’s like I'm celebrating a second birthday today.

WELCOME TO SLAPSVILLE…

Single people who exclaim, “Where are all the good men/women?” We’re everywhere. They just have unrealistic standards or expectations so we get overlooked.

A FIST BUMP GOES TO…

Bert. He’s been my best friend for over a quarter century, and I implicitly trust him on all matters including The Muse. I love this guy. In fact, I joked that if he ever came out as bisexual I’d put a ring on him. I don’t think Neil Lane Couture does men’s rings, though.

WHAT’S UP WITH MY HEALTH

I made strength gains this week, which is no surprise. What’s also no surprise is the associated injuries from weight training. The torn callouses on my thumbs made a full workout a challenge. Don’t worry, y'all. I’m healing up nicely.

As for my weight… I was down to 255.6 this morning despite my best efforts to be a naughty boy. This shall be my starting weight as we renew this fitness journey. When I look in the mirror nowadays, I can see an outline of something just below my chest...

Maybe it’s not a middle aged man's foolish dream to one day have the six pack outside the refrigerator?

Comments

  1. Yay for using the gift cards!!!!!!!!!! I would have too!!!

And yes, Katy' Perry's boots!?!?! I only wonder why I don't own a pair? And when I saw Lexi Love, I could swear I saw some of my own personality there. It was pretty entertaining. Im not sure if Lexi is indeed trans, but this is the first season in about 6, that a trans queen isn't on.

  2. Sounds like a great first week of the New Year! My BFF of almost 40 years lives three states away so I miss that local connection. Old friends that know everything about us are the best. She reminds me of things that I've forgotten. I hope you have a great weekend. We're under a severe winter storm warning so probably in the house for the next few days and I have no problem with that. Big Hugs!!

  3. It sounds as if your new year is off to a great start! Like Lori, we are under a winter weather watch too. I haven't seen a real snow fall in four years!

  4. Different Rings and Oaths fit my emotional state on different days, so I'd forever have to wear them all and probably recite a different oath every day. Today i have to reorganize my basement, so I'll be channeling will power to do it.
