Trippin' On A Thorsday Eve

I’m less than a week away from my first road trip since forever and I’m nervous. I’m driving Miku about an hour north of Le Crash Pad, but it might as well be a journey into the relatively unknown. I’ve traveled many times before, but I feel so far out of my element right now.

For starters, I just ordered a 16-piece toiletries essentials kit with more empty bottles and jars than I actually need. Or is it? I have no idea and I won’t get my answer until I fill them.

I must plan my outfits. My itinerary includes dinner at a sports bar restaurant, an upscale dining experience for lunch, and a moderately priced bistro on my way home. Two can be button down shirts and jeans, but what’s the dress code for the fancy restaurant at the winery? I obviously need to call them, and possibly book the reservation while I’m at it.

I’ll take a walk in lieu of my exercise bike to get my workout in on the one full day I’ll be there, but how cold will it be in the morning? Do I need a beanie and gloves to go with a jacket? Or should I just find a shopping mall to walk around in the afternoon hours? There’s a Williams Sonoma store where I’m going, so I’m leaning toward the latter right now.

I'll take plenty of pictures. Should I use my smart phone or my venerable but still great Canon SX620 HS camera? Tough call there, but the Canon has a better flash and more settings.

Then there’s the ongoing novel prep. I’ll pack my Surface Pro 7, but do I work on it in my hotel room? A Starbucks? I’m betting on both since I’ll likely not have coffee with breakfast.

I hate disorder in my life, but I really like having all of these questions bouncing off the walls of my skull like rubber balls in a racquetball court.

  1. Oh my God an hour and a half that's nothing. When I used to come see Kim we would go to Sonoma and Napa Valley and hit The Vineyards. I found people dressed very casual yet trendy. For example I had jeans on, with a button-down shirt, dress shoes and certain days a blazer, or other days a button-down cardigan with short sleeve polo.

I say don't worry and just go with the flow. If I lived in California I would so much be a more Northern California person than Southern. I just ignore Wine Country, San Francisco, Sausalito and Lake Tahoe.
