Palm Desert: Day 2 - A Shopping (Mis)Adventure

I had a very productive writing session in my hotel room this morning. My goal was to get Chapter 5 started, and then spend this afternoon and evening finishing it. I actually had it written by 10:30am! To reward myself, I decided to revisit the crime scene. Or at least the place that was closed after Spo and I had dinner.

So, what's in the Shag bag?

I couldn't determine whether to buy a coaster or a rocks glass set, so I splurged on one of each that pairs well together. Chances are those glasses will only see milk and orange juice, but I really wanted something to commemorate both meeting Spo and visiting Palm Springs for the first time.

Joann's is closing all of their stores, so I dropped by the local one that's still open for liquidation. I originally wanted to find a Raiders print fabric but then I fell in love with something that harkens to my past. I've owned two later model Camaro Z28s, and I took one of them cruising along Route 66 between Barstow and Victorville a quarter century ago.

What better way to remember that solitary adventure than by wearing a Spo shirt? I picked up five yards just in case four isn't enough.

As hinted previously, I stopped at The French Corner Cafe for lunch. On the outside it doesn't look like much, but a number of Google reviews mentioned how good the food is. I decided to give it a go.

I started things off with a traditional cappuccino that was both foamy and quite satisfying.

My meal was a smoked salmon croissant with a side salad. I wanted to pair this with a good white wine, but I wilted in 90+ heat for about an hour and a half beforehand so I opted for the cappuccino instead.

I typically bypass desert but this fruit tart called to me. It made the difference between having a good lunch and an amazing one. With a generous tip I spent more than $50 on my meal. I enjoyed the food so much that I'm going there for breakfast tomorrow morning.

When I got back to my hotel, I realized I may have gotten myself into a potentially embarrassing situation. I opened my sling bag and noticed I had a packet of lube but the condom was missing. I believe this happened when I either removed or put away my reading glasses. I'm not doing hookups, but if I meet someone for a date and they're emotionally and physically available I want to be prepared for all possible outcomes.

So now my biggest fear is that one of the cafe workers knows I have a baguette. Breakfast could be quite interesting tomorrow. Ara ara!

  1. Shag is my kind of place, and so are those old fashions! Will Spo make the shirt for you toots? The print is so you I suspect.

    1. Shag was an amazing place. It's hard not to smile when you see those designs. Spo indeed will make the shirt, and the print spoke to me when I saw it.

  2. I love the coaster and glasses. The design style is very similar to my cafe curtains in my kitchen. The croissant looks amazing. I'm glad you're having a great time.
