That One Time I...

... Missed An Opportunity?

When I met Spo for dinner nearly three weeks ago, I mentioned to him there's a woman I'd like to ask out. I suppose I should tell y'all about this roller coaster I'm riding behind the scenes.

Let's call her Ivy. Like the DC Comics character, Ivy's a flame haired lady that's been on my radar since last October. Remember that incident when I bought the Vick's combo pack for colds and the flu? When a pretty market clerk helped me at the self-checkout and inputted my age as 39 years old? That's her.

Anyway, just before I went on my Palm Desert trip she rung me up at her register on Valentine's Day of all days. We had a fun, lighthearted conversation and I had automatically assumed she was going to have plans after her shift was over.

Well, I was quite shocked when she told me love had passed her by when I wished her a happy V-Day. I knew it would've been awkward if I had asked her out then, so I vowed to myself I'd do that the next time I saw her while grocery shopping.

Since then I haven't seen her. Is she on vacation or take time off? Did she get sick? Fired? Transferred? Or worse? I have no idea, and now I wonder if going on a first date or getting shot down just wasn't meant to be.

Now that this is off my chest, I can write this afternoon with a clear head. I'll also start posting about trip prep. Temecula Valley Wine Country is just nine days away!

  1. I have noticed people is pharmacies and food markets come and go quickly anymore or get transferred to other close by stores that may be shorthanded. At the farmers market people know everybody, but it seems in the grocery stores, they don't take time to get to know regulars anymore. When I was still in Bucks County, the one lady and guy always remembered me by name for years, then they just disappeared.

    1. I think that's what happened to Ivy and that's too bad. She was really nice.

  2. Try to remember that if it really was meant to be, you will see her again.
