Random Thoughts On A Thorsday Evening
Sorry to disappoint y'all, but this morning I didn't get a bathroom addition to Le Crash Pad. This was the equipment parked on the street before all hell broke loose. I fortunately escaped the madness and fled to the MINI dealership.
Both Artoria and Miku attempted -- and failed -- to Break My Wallet today. Yeah, I had to get in that BMW joke while I can. Anyway...
When I took Artoria in for maintenance I learned it was also time to change her spark plugs and the cabin microfiber filter as required at 40,000 miles. The total bill all that plus the oil and oil filter change was about $425, a large chunk of change but something I can cover.
I spent 4.5 hours at the dealership but I was prepared for a long wait. In addition to dancing and other things with May poles as demonstrated by Mistress Maddie's house boys, the fifth month also means I must start another classic book. I didn't plan on reading S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders from start to finish in the waiting area but that's what happened.
I was a little disappointed with my visit but I hold the dealership faultless. For those that have never met me in person, I pretty much behave like I'm everyone's favorite golden retriever when I'm out and about. So imagine my disappointment when no one other than the employees were talkative. I've never seen so many people engrossed in their phone screens in my life. It was a bit unsettling.
Perhaps the tariffs and layoffs are to blame?
While there I received an email that Miku's registration renewal would arrive later in the day. I opened the envelope and there goes another $326 dollars. I spent $751 on both MINIs today, but unlike The Muse or Sensei I don't mind opening my wallet to them. Artoria and Miku give me so much joy that I can't refuse them.
Thursdays mean I get to watch the anime Rock Is A Lady's Modesty, but let's get real. There's nothing modest about Lilisa and Otoha other than those music instrument censors. Ara ara!
It's only been a few days, but I've adjusted to parking both MINIs in the backyard. Even after the street work is completed in a few weeks I may park Miku back there going forward. The city parking ordinance is that a car can't be parked in the same spot for more than 72 hours, and if I leave her in the backyard I can truly make her my weekend car and drive Artoria on weekdays. That would be ideal.
$425!!!!!!!! My lands! When I get that same service for my MX-5, it's always a no charge by my dealership! Tire rotations too. And car wash. Since I had this car, in the last four years, my biggest bill was $550 for two new tires.
ReplyDeleteAnd just how much is California's driving renewal fee?!?! Our's is $39.00. I can see why so many I know are leaving the state.
DeleteI'd do my own maintenance but I have that added element of possibly getting hit by a passing car. I narrowly escaped that twice on consecutive days, so until I move into a house with a garage I'm a retired shade tree mechanic.
DeleteCA's registration fees include a lot of stuff.

I haven't seen direct signs of tariff consequences yet. I hear fears and grumbles rather.
