Temecula Valley: Day 1

I was under the impression vacations are getaways. You're supposed escape your every day problems, and yet that wasn't the case today. A phone call from my brother's rehab center? Sorry, I can't fix a problem my sister created. The idiots on the I-15 freeway? Two accidents delayed my arrival by nearly an hour. The comics shop that left a message for an order pickup? I forgot to cancel that a few months ago. Whoops!

I ordered the usual at Old Town Pub, and I also got a side order of the downfall of heterosexual men. The masculine presence other than mine was provided by two young obnoxious women who were inked like a comic book. Not long afterward, a woman appeared on my side and I noticed three things about her right off the bat. She outweighted her beta male tagalong, and she spilled out of a silk crimson bustier more suited for the streets than a proper lunch date. Now I clearly understand why younger men have checked out of the dating scene -- and why I usually keep to myself.

On my way to B&N I got cut off by a woman in a Jeep Wrangler with vanity plates. In what has to be the worst case of real time karma I've ever seen, literally one block later smoke and oil poured out from beneath the Jeep's engine block when she cut in front of another driver while getting onto an I-15 onramp -- and she kept on driving. Ara ara! That's going to be a hefty repair bill!

Things calmed down once I arrived at the Starbucks Cafe within B&N. I perused the latest issue of Palm Springs Life with an iced chai latte that really hit the spot. However, I did not work on my manuscript as planned. I just wasn't in the mood.

I changed up my Total Wine provisions for this trip. Non-boozy or sugary mojitos to drink, and pepper jack cheese snacks and shortbread cookies to snack on. I also was given a free cookie and a handwritten letter from the SpringHill Suites staff thanking me for my stay upon check in. This pleased me greatly!

I shall spend the rest of the evening watching the Padres - Dodgers game, working on a chapter of my manuscript, and breaking in these new shoes with a quick trip to Rosa's for Taco Tuesday.

  1. Shit honey.....just be glad and hope the madness of LA doesn't reach your region. As if CA doesn't already have enough issues. Rising prices, wildfires, and unpredictable weather patterns and now riots. Just what you guys need. And The Dump and ICE are to blame.

    1. I haven't seen any signs of protests here so that's a good sign. As for prices, a new 65 cent gas tax increase goes into effect in July!

  2. Wow, that trip on the I-15 freeway sounds like a nail biter.

    1. It can be quite a challenge in some places even when it's not rush hour.

  3. Your day sounds a bit like mine. It just seemed like there was one annoyance after the other. I hope today is much smoother. Your meal looks delish!

    1. Me too. It actually got worse after this posting. The Padres-Dodgers series is blacked out due to Temecula is in Dodgers territory. That's a huge strike against the city if I move here!

    2. That is just wrong. They do that here with a lot of Cub or Bears games. We're in Illinois but close to St. Louis so we get those games. Ticks TBG off big time.

    3. On the flip side they might black out Chargers games here. That's a plus.
